PT University

Welcome to PT University

PT University offers educational content to patients while they're undergoing treatment. Our goal is to maximize engagement, experiences, outcomes and communication for both patients and clinical teams.

Patients will be able to watch any of the videos whenever they choose. In order to ensure the correct timing of content, patients will be notified by PT Wired when their next PT University video is available.

The descriptions for each video are included below. The format of the {Injury} and {Region} tags depends on the diagnosis chosen when creating your care plans.

Sample Content

Video One:

Understanding Your {INJURY}

Setting realistic expectations and understanding your {injury} are the first steps toward healing. With precise expectations and knowledge, you can avoid setbacks and create a path back to normalcy.

Eric Fattey, PT DPT, discusses more about region injuries and what is frequently the source and cause of discomfort.

Video Two:

Avoiding and Minimizing Setbacks

Setbacks are sometimes unavoidable during your healing journey. They may be minimal and last a few days or more extensive, lasting weeks.

It's often tempting to test your limits which may result in a setback. That's why it's essential to recognize activities that carry more risk and could potentially slow, stop, or reverse the recovery of your {region}.

Video Three:

Managing Expectations

When an injury disrupts your life, it's natural to want to bounce back as soon as possible. The desire and need for a rapid recovery can be unrealistic and impede your progress. That's what the following video is all about: being realistic about your healing timeframe.

Video Four:

Avoid "Overdoing" It

As you recover, you may want to catch up on chores, jobs, and tasks that have been neglected. You should avoid "overdoing it" and suffering a setback when returning to your daily activities.

You'll be guided by your physical therapist on how to introduce new activities, tasks and hobbies to your daily routine. With careful planning, you'll start to feel back on track in no time.

Video Five:

Achieving Recovery Milestones

While you're still in the early stages of the recovery process, you'll begin noticing "small wins." Activities rarely return instantly. Often, painful or challenging activities from your {injury} will begin with small and progressive gains.

Video Six:

Healing Beyond Four Weeks

After the first month of recovery, new opportunities and challenges will present themselves. As in previous weeks, knowing your healing and creating appropriate expectations can keep you on track to achieving your goals.

Learn more about what to expect as your treatment progresses past the first month.

Video Seven:

Communication is Key

Your recovery consists of more than just the exercises and movements you do throughout treatment. Good communication with your treatment team will help you progress and avoid setbacks.

Learn more and maintain an open channel of contact throughout the treatment process.

Video Eight:

Progressing Through Treatment

Your exercises and expectations will shift as your treatment progresses. Previous videos have emphasized the need to protect your {injury} and avoid overdoing it.

Video Nine:

Achieving Your Goals

Returning to normal varies between patients. While some patients aim to return to their day-to-day activities without pain, others look to return to hobbies and exercise routines.

Communication between you and your treatment team is critical to achieving your goals. With this knowledge, your Physical Therapist can customize your treatment to ensure you're on the path to full recovery and goal achievement.
